What is service learning and how can you carry out it in your class?

Service learning is the perfect conjunction between two closely related disciplines: on the one hand, experience-based learning and, on the other hand, community service. In short, it is about completing the curriculum link with a solidarity action. In this way, the two competences are strengthened, since we are giving students the possibility to learn and by doing so, they are being useful for a social cause.

What is the objective of integrating learning with solidarity in class?

In reality, the goal of education should be to instruct good citizens. People who are capable in their adulthood of being critical of social injustices or, at least.  Trying to improve the society in which they live. In addition, helping others is the best implementation of all the knowledge learned in a classroom.   2. Urban Garden Project: Students will assimilate knowledge about vegetables and their cultivation. Gain skills and abilities in gardening techniques, commitment, effort and teamwork.
  3. Adopt a river: children and adolescents commit to this initiative to protect a river section. thus deepening their knowledge and applying them in their effort to curb environmental degradation.
  4. Food collection campaign: children improve their knowledge and attitudes about nutrition, hunger and inequality, designing and carrying out their own campaign in the neighborhood or area to collect the Food Bank.
  5. We reforest a mountain: They will learn to plant a tree. It is the perfect action to reverse the damage caused by deforestation. which will consist of planting trees where there are no more or few left, taking care of them so that they develop properly and can regenerate a forest.
